Connecting WhatsApp.
Claywire connects to your own Meta WhatsApp Business number — you keep ownership of your number and your Meta account. Here's how to connect it. Hand this page to your developer if you'd rather not do it yourself; our team can also do it with you.

Before you start
Live WhatsApp connection unlocks once your account is approved (see getting started). You'll need a Meta Business account with the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) set up for your number.
From Meta's side you'll need these four values:
- Phone Number ID — the numeric ID of your WhatsApp number (from the WhatsApp → API Setup screen).
- Access Token — a permanent/system-user token Claywire uses to send on your behalf.
- App Secret — used to verify that inbound webhook events genuinely came from Meta.
- Verify Token— a phrase you choose; you'll paste the same one into both Claywire and Meta.
Step 1 — Enter your credentials in Claywire
In your workspace, go to Settings → WhatsAppand enter the four values above, plus your display number. Claywire encrypts your token and secret before storing them — they're never shown again or exposed to your browser.
Step 2 — Point Meta's webhook at Claywire
In the Meta App dashboard, under WhatsApp → Configuration, set the webhook callback URL and verify token:
Callback URL
https://app.claywire.in/api/webhooks/whatsapp
(Use your own Claywire domain if you're on a custom one — it's the same path: /api/webhooks/whatsapp.)
Verify token
Paste the exact same verify token you entered in Claywire in Step 1. Meta sends a one-time handshake to confirm the two match.
Webhook fields to subscribe
- messages — so Claywire receives inbound customer messages and delivery/read status.
Step 3 — Send a test
Back in Settings → WhatsApp, use the Send test messagebutton to message your own number. If it arrives, you're connected — inbound messages will now flow into your inbox and your AI agents will start responding.
Multiple numbers & switching off
Each workspace connects its own number, and inbound messages are routed to the right workspace automatically by Phone Number ID. You can disconnect anytime from the same screen — that clears your stored credentials and stops Claywire from sending or receiving on that number.
